New Delhi: The government on Wednesday approved 4-laning of a road project in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh that is 99 km long, costing Rs 2,535.54 crore.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for development of the 4-laning of the Nagina-Kashipur section of National Highway - 74 covering the two states, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways said in a statement.

"The cost is estimated to be Rs 2,535.54 crore including cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities. The total length of the road will be approximately 99 kms," the statement said. The project will improve infrastructure in the two states, it said.

"It will also help in reducing the time and cost of travel for traffic, particularly heavy traffic, plying on the Nagina-Kashipursector," it said.

The development of this stretch will also help uplift the socio-economic conditions of the regions in both the states and increase employment potential for local labourers for project activities, it added.

"This work will be under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-IV. The approval is in Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis," the statement said.
