Gurgaon deputy mayor booked on rape charge

Gurgaon: Gurgaon Deputy Mayor Parminder Kataria has been booked on charge of raping a divorcee after promising to marry her, police said on Sunday.

The 40-year-old woman registered a complaint at the women's police station in Sector 51, alleging that Kataria, 42, raped her several times in the last six months.

The complainant, residing in Sector 10, also said that Kataria's two accomplices threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the crime to anyone.

The woman has been working as Kataria's office incharge for an year.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Hawa Singh told IANS that Kataria was booked under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code on Saturday.

Kataria could not be contacted for comments.
