The verdict is in lieu of the appeal confirming the death sentence awarded to six out of the eight accused found guilty in the carnage by lower court.
According to Khan, the CBI had demanded that all the eight accused be hanged to death and also the two others be booked under the Atrocities Act.
However, on hearing the prosecution and defence lawyers, the division bench found the accused guilty under sections murder, rioting and destruction of evidence of Indian Penal Code. However the court reduced the quantum of punishment passed by lower court and instead sentenced all the eight accused for 25 years of rigorous imprisonment with no remission.
