The auto union claims that as part of the Hakeem Committee report there ought to be hike in auto and taxi fares if there is any rise in basic cost of fuel, spare parts of autos, oil and other commodities that are used to run a vehicle. &ldquo;The government was to hike the fare from May 1, but on the last day of April they decided not to announce any hike. So we have now demanded rise in base fare to Rs 25,&rdquo; said Rao. Commuters find this demand ridiculous as instances of refusal of fares by rickshaw drivers and misbehaviour are only increasing. People claim that they have to wait for a long time to find rickshaws to get to their destinations despite most of them running empty. The union has claimed that couple of weeks back autorickshaw fares in Delhi went up to Rs 25 after a hik. Apart from this the Municipal Mazdoor Union of Mumbai, comprising workers from BMC, BEST Undertaking, hawker union and autorickshaws will join the protest against the implementation of Local Body Tax.u00a0
