The 'Hind-di-Chadar' event in Maharashtra's Nanded commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur saw millions of devotees gather to pay tribute to the Sikh Guru’s supreme sacrifice.
The event was held at Modi Maidan and was attended by several dignitaries, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
CM Fadnavis said that Guru Tegh Bahadur’s sacrifice was not only for the Sikh faith but for the protection of human values, culture, and religious freedom. He added that the state government is working to spread the history of the Guru’s sacrifice to every household. The event is part of a larger effort to teach students and communities about Sikh history.
Fadnavis also highlighted the unity shown by nine communities who follow the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev.
Foundation of India’s spirit

He praised the historical bond between Maharashtra and Punjab, noting the connection through Sant Namdev and Guru Gobind Singh, and said that the land of Nanded has a special spiritual significance due to the long stay of Guru Gobind Singh.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that Guru Tegh Bahadur’s sacrifice was a historic example of courage and moral strength. He said the Guru fought against oppressive rulers to protect religious freedom and human dignity.
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Konidela Pawan Kalyan, who began his speech in Marathi, said the event would be remembered for generations. He urged young people to follow the Guru’s ideals and work for the unity and integrity of the nation.
Several other leaders also praised the event, including Delhi Minister Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who thanked the Maharashtra government for organising the gathering and bringing communities together.
Connection between Maharashtra and Punjab
The event also emphasised the historic connection between Maharashtra and Punjab, as noted by Sant Giani Harnam Singh, who highlighted how Sant Namdev and Guru Gobind Singh helped unite the two states.
The event concluded with religious ceremonies and tributes, including the honouring of the Panch Pyare (five beloved ones), and the Chief Minister offering prayers at the Guru Granth Sahib.
