MiD DAY had reported the incident yesterday (Did IIT employee drug, rape student?). Senior Inspector from Powai police station Bajirao Bhosle said, “The arrest of Rajan has been done for causing hurt, wrongful confinement, kidnapping for wrongful intention and molesting.” “The accused is in police custody. We cannot force the girl to undergo a medical test. We need her consent. The case is under investigation,” said Chhering Dorje, DCP, Zone X. Anjana told the police that she and Rajan often played tennis. After their game on Saturday, he took her to his house. He then served her a spread of medu vada, batata vada, cake and coffee. After having the coffee, Anjana felt drowsy, and says she doesn’t know when she blacked out. She has stated that she called a friend in Andhra Pradesh and also unsuccessfully tried sending an SMS to her boyfriend. When she finally gained consciousness, she found herself at Rajawadi hospital. Doctors there confirmed the woman was under the influence of drugs. Meanwhile, the friend from Andhra called up one of Anjana’s colleagues at IIT campus. A group of the victim’s friends then started searching for her. They called up security, went to the tennis court, and later found Rajan. They accompanied him to his residence and found Anjana on a sofa in a semi-conscious state. Her clothes were dishevelled. She was first taken to IIT hospital, and was then referred to Rajawadi hospital. When contacted by MiD DAY, state women and child welfare minister Varsha Gaikwad said, “We cannot be judgmental. It is a serious matter; my department will try to communicate with the student first and find out if she needs any help. We cannot force anyone to undergo medical test.”u00a0 IIT-Bombay spokesperson Jaya Joshi refused to comment on the matter.u00a0
