India to be world's most populous country by 2028

India will surpass China as the world's most populous country by 2028, the United Nations reports in a new study that predicts world population will rise to 9.6 billion by 2050
The UN’s World Population Prospect: The 2012 revision report, launched in New York on Thursday, said much of the overall increase through 2050 would take place in high-fertility countries, including Asian nations with large populations such as India, Indonesia, Pakistan and the Philippines.
India’s population is expected to overtake China’s around 2028, when both countries will have a populations of around 1.45 billion, the report stated. India’s assumption of the title as the world’s most populous country has been predicted many times in the past years.
