Industrialist, son killed in mishap

In a head-on collision on the Pune-Ahmednagar road three, including an industrialist and his eight-year-old son, were killed on the spot. An engineering student related to a city-based factory owner was also killed in the mishap.u00a0

The accident took place at Narayan Gavane, 12 km from Shirur in the Parner Taluk and created an hour-long traffic jam on the Pune-Ahmednagar road. The police said the accident took place when Kothrud-based industrialist Nandkumar Pramod Barate, who was on his way to the city in his Esteem car, collided with a container coming from the opposite side near Dandekarvasti around 2 pm yesterday.

While Barate, his son Vendang and a relative Sagar Shailesh Mahajan (22) died on the spot, the industrialist's wife Rajashree (36), her father Dattatray Narayan Sarode (62) and the couple's elder son Meghan Nandkumar Barate (10) suffered serious injuries.

Constables attached to the Supa police station U K Shriram and T C Dharat admitted the injured to a private hospital in Shirur and then shifted them to another hospital in the city. The Shirur police said Barate was the owner of Rajalaxmi Technology, a factory in the city. The Barate family were visiting an ailing relative in Shirur.
