The Lokayukta police have filed a charge sheet under Prevention of Corruption Act, which says a major part of the bribe money had gone into construction of their lavishly built house.The Kattas had earlier filed a bail application, but the Lokayukta special court rejected it. The home built two years ago on a site measuring 50x80 feet in a posh locality of Sadashiva Nagar has 20 split air conditioner units, apart from a centralised A/C system for the entire building. Palatial dwelling An architect, requesting anonymity, informed that the Kattas have spent over Rs 10 lakh on every 100 sq m, while the average market rate is Rs 1.5 lakh. The entire interiors are exotic with Italian marble for the floor, luxurious wooden fitting and super expensive bathroom fittings.While Katta Subramanya had to step down as a minister after the scam surfaced, Katta Jagdish, who is a councilor in the BBMP, was caught red-handed while attempting to bribe a witness in the case. All in the family? The charge sheet says the bribe was paid by Itasca to Indu Builders and Developers, a fictitious company, and the investigators have found Rs 9.5 lakh had been spent on split A/C units. The bill was footed by Indu Builders to Nova Developers towards the purchase of the units. Nova Developers has said that the payment was made thorough a cheque issued by Katta Subramanya wife K S Sowbhagya. Apart from this, Rs 35 lakh was paid to the Kattas through Indu Builders towards construction expenses of the house, while the company has paid to the family Rs 21.95 crore in all. A separate amount of Rs 5.29 crore had been paid to Jalaja, Katta Subramanya's daughter. More to come After observation, Justice Sudindra Rao, the judge hearing the case, has condemned the luxury in his order quashing the bail petition. It is found that Indu Builders also funded foreign trips made by the family. The company has paid Rs 7.5 lakh to a travel agency towards flight tickets. "We know this is only the tip of the iceberg, but this is what we have gathered so far. I think further investigation will reveal more," said an officer in Lokayukta police.
