<p>Keralam Chief Minister VD Satheesan on Friday presented the UDF government&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/kerala-budget-with-an-apparent-eye-on-assembly-polls-ldf-announces-people-centric-schemes-23614244" rel="nofollow">first Budget for 2026-27 in the Assembly</a>, unveiling a mix of fiscal reforms, infrastructure projects, and welfare initiatives aimed at reviving the state&rsquo;s economy.</p>
<p>The centrepiece is Mission Samudra, a maritime development programme that seeks to transform Keralam into a global maritime hub over the next five years with an allocation of Rs 400 crore.</p>
<h2>Tax relief</h2>
<p><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/world-news/video/vd-satheesan-kerala-cm-kerala-chief-minister-congress-kerala-udf-victory-rahul-gandhi-mallikarjun-kharge-kc-venugopal-ramesh-chennithala-kerala-politics-congress-high-command-kerala-1080762" rel="nofollow">CM Satheesan announced a series of tax relief measures</a>, amnesty schemes, and revisions to vehicle taxes, saying the steps are aimed at easing the burden on taxpayers. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>One of the key tax relief announcements was the Flood Cess Arrears Settlement Scheme, 2026.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The government also unveiled a Small Arrear Waiver Scheme, 2026 for pending dues under pre-GST tax laws.&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Health and education</h2>
<p>The revised Budget allocated close to Rs 1500 crore to the general education sector to improve the quality and academic standards of government-run schools in the state. &nbsp;An allocation of Rs 2,076.02 crore was announced for medical care and public health.&nbsp;</p>
<h2>For Gen-Z</h2>
<p>The chief minister announced a Rs 50 crore initiative for Generation-Z, describing the digitally native generation as a key driver of state&rsquo;s future economy and innovation.&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Anti-ragging app</h2>
<p>In the revised Budget, the state has introduced an anti-ragging app to protect students. &ldquo;The &lsquo;Sidharthan Student Distress App&rsquo; will be introduced, and and enacted to prevent ragging,&rdquo; CM Satheesan said.</p>
