Residents say since the terror attack, youths are routinely picked up in night raids by cops, taken to isolated spots and interrogated

Moreu00a0than a month after the German Bakery blast, the police have no arrests to show. Investigative agencies have remained tightlipped on the progress made in the case. Investigating officers refuse to even say if anybody has been detained for questioning so far.

And yet, there is an area in the city from where every few days youths are picked up in the middle of the
night, taken to isolated spots and interrogated.

That area is Kondhwa, and residents say since the Valentine's Day eve blast they have lost count of the number of times the police have come knocking in the neighbourhood.

The residents claim about 250 youths were picked up from the area and released after brief interrogation over the past month.

The sources said the police arrive in mufti, and always past midnight, and they pick up youths from their homes in the lanes and by-lanes of Kondhwa.

"Those who were picked up include educated, uneducated and IT-trained youngsters," said a local political leader who, fearing police trouble, did not wish to be named. "The police ask for generic names and pick up several people bearing the same name."

He added, "The youngsters who are picked up are blindfolded and taken to some isolated spot on the outskirts of Pune where there is no electricity and then are left after interrogation."

None of the officers handling the blast investigations would confirm any detention in any part of the city.
