Encroachers had broken locks to occupy property; were nabbed because of alert neighbours

Realty bites again. Shahjahan (32), Mumtaz (25), and Shabnam (27) were in the business of usurping properties lying vacant. But this time they made a wrong move.

The three women, with the help of Arif, Shahjahan's husband, and his friend Nasrul had broken the security lock and occupied a plot belonging to Nazra Islam, sister of former Rajya Sabha MP Waseem Ahmed.

Nazra Islam had bought the property in Delhi's Zakir Nagar in 1988 and after her husband's death, she had moved to Aligarh. She had left the property under the care of Zamir Ahmad Khan, Waseem Ahmed's friend.

"I had got a call from the neighbour about the encroachment. At that time I was in Aligarh so, I had called the caretaker of the plot. We were lucky someone was there to inform us or else the encroachment would have been there for months instead of just a few hours. I got to know from police officials that these women are a gang and usually capture those houses whose owners are not from Delhi. For now we've arranged more security for the plot," said Waseem Ahmed, Nazra's brother.

Zamir Ahmed Khan, the caretaker of the house resides just behind Nazra's plot. His father had sold the piece of land to Nazra's husband in 1988 and since that time, unofficially, he became the caretaker of the plot.

Zamir said: " The moment I got a call from Waseem at midnight, I had called the PCR and reached the spot along with them. Those women were trying to settle down. They were claiming that someone had sold the plot to them. Arif, Shahjahan's husband, had given a fake document to her to produce as proof and had fled from the scene before the arrival of the police.

Arif already has a pending case of theft against him. These people have a record of encroaching upon other properties as well. They had also usurped the house of Nazra's neighbour but there is no official record of this, as they had made a deal with these women to vacate the house for just a few thousand rupees."

"Right now they are out on bail. An FIR has been registered against them," said a police official.

LAND AHOY!
The Delhi High court on Friday directed sons of former Chief Justice of India Y K Sabharwal and their associate, who are in real estate business, to refrain from selling or transferring a property here, worth around Rs 117 crore. A Division Bench of Justice Vikramjit Sen and Justice Mukta Gupta, in an ex-parte order, directed them to maintain status quo on the property at 7 Sikandra Road which they obtained on judicial order after the actual bidder failed to pay the amount to the original owner of the property. The single judge order vesting the property to former CJI's sons Chetan and Nitin Sabharwal and their partner Kabul Chawla was challenged before the division bench by another real estate developer Prime Commercial Pvt Ltd which was the second highest bidder in 2006. The division bench passed the order on the petition of Prime Commercial Pvt Ltd and issued notices to Sabharwal brothers and posted the matter for further hearing on October 26.
