Finally, some good news on the price front. About 40 trucks of apples per day from the northern state are arriving at APMC market daily and in the days to come the number of trucks could touch over 100. Sanjay Pansare, director of Vashi&rsquo;s APMC fruit market, said that the apples from Himachal are popularly known as Royal apples. &ldquo;Although apples are available in the market throughout the year, they are often imported, or come after being kept in cold storage. From April till June, the Indian apple season is quite slow with hardly any produce entering the market,&rdquo; Panse said. Imported apples are available in the market throughout the year. They are known to come from New Zealand, China, Australia, France and even Iran. &ldquo;However once the Indian variety of the fruit enters the market then less of imported apples are sold. The Kinnaur apples are usually in demand. The fruit doesn&rsquo;t go bad easily and can be kept in cold storage,&rdquo; added Pansare. The Kinnaur apples (from Himachal Pradesh) are likely to enter the market after August 15, and are set to be more expensive than the other varieties. Ram Morde, a trader from Crawford market said the fruit is not too expensive this season, and sells like hot cakes in the month of Shravan and during Ganesh Chaturthi. He explained, &ldquo;Due to the paucity of apples between April and June, the produce is from cold storage. Now, apples are coming from Shimla region. Depending on the size of the fruit, the price per kg could vary anywhere between Rs 70-150.&rdquo;u00a0
