Hundreds of Nepalese yesterday held memorial services to mark the first anniversary of last year&rsquo;s devastating earthquake, which killed nearly 9,000 people.
Victims are still being forced to live in tents and accused the government of failing to look after them.
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the Himalayan nation in April 25, 2015.&nbsp;Worst in 80 years, its devastation spread to India as buildings collapsed, roads cracked and communication broke down.
Over 8000 people were killed and more than 21000 injured. The quake triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest, killing 21 and another in the Langtang valley, where 250 people were reported missing.
Continued aftershocks occurred throughout Nepal at the intervals of 15&ndash;20 minutes, with one shock reaching a magnitude of 6.7 a day after the first quake with a continued risk of landslides.
A major aftershock occurred on 12 May 2015 with a moment magnitude of 7.3 near the Chinese border between the capital of Kathmandu and Mt. Everest killing over 200 people and injuring more than 2500.
Hundreds of thousands of people became homeless with entire villages flattened. Centuries-old buildings were destroyed at UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Kathmandu Valley, including some at the Kathmandu Durbar Square, the Patan Durbar Square, the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the Changu Narayan Temple, the Boudhanath stupa and the Swayambhunath Stupa.
