Maharashtra Industries <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/rs-12000-cr-from-bmcs-fds-allocated-for-infra-projects-in-mumbai-uday-samant-23620671?button=next" rel="nofollow">Minister Uday Samant</a> on Monday announced a special government drive to provide Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to industries as soon as they request it, according to the IANS.
The move comes in response to a reported shortage of LPG cylinders, which has disrupted industrial operations across the state, officials said.
Minister Samant emphasised that no industrial unit should face hurdles due to a lack of gas supply. &ldquo;Maintaining industrial production during the current war situation in West Asia is crucial for the state&rsquo;s economy. Natural gas is cost-effective, safe and eco-friendly, and every eligible industry should get connections without delay,&rdquo; he said, reported IANS.
<h2>Special camps to be set up</h2>
Under this initiative, the government will organise district-wise and industrial estate-wise special camps to provide PNG connections. Applications will be simplified, technical inspections will be conducted quickly, and pending requests will be cleared without delay.
Minister Samant directed all government departments, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and gas distribution companies to work together to ensure smooth delivery of<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/us-israel-attack-iran-maharashtra-to-raise-gas-supply-and-export-concerns-of-industries-with-centre-says-uday-samant-23620634" rel="nofollow"> PNG connections.</a> He added that the campaign is a significant step toward creating a business-friendly environment in the state.
<h2>LPG supply and black-marketing warning</h2>
The minister clarified that domestic consumers will get priority for LPG cylinders, while commercial supply will follow central government guidelines. He warned that authorities will take strict action against distributors who create artificial shortages or engage in black marketing.
Citizens can report such activities through the toll-free number 112.
<h2>Broader PNG expansion plans</h2>
Earlier, Food and Civil Supply Minister <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/us-israel-attack-iran-maharashtra-to-raise-gas-supply-and-export-concerns-of-industries-with-centre-says-uday-samant-23620634" rel="nofollow">Chhagan Bhujbal</a> urged the Centre to support the expansion of PNG networks with technical assistance and funding. He highlighted the importance of making PNG mandatory in new housing projects and launching campaigns to connect older residential areas.
Bhujbal also stressed that extending PNG to hotels, restaurants, and small industries will lower costs and provide eco-friendly energy alternatives, while simplifying licensing and connection processes.
The campaign is expected to strengthen Maharashtra&rsquo;s industrial growth and provide a more reliable and eco-friendly energy option for businesses. With rising global fuel prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions, these measures aim to protect the state&rsquo;s economy while promoting clean energy.
