Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally rose to 19,94,977 with the addition of 2,294 fresh cases on Tuesday, while more than 4,500 patients recovered from the infection, the state health department said.
With 50 new deaths, the state''s fatality count rose to 50,523, the department said in a statement.
Of the 50 deaths, 35 took place in the past 48 hours, while five occurred last week. The remaining 10 deaths occurred in the period before last week, but were added to the toll now, it said.
A total of 4,516 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, which took the number of recovered persons to 18,94,839, the department said. There are 48,406 active cases in the state at present, it added.
Mumbai city reported the highest single-day cases in the state with a spike of 473, while Pune city saw a rise of 183 infections, the statement said.
In Nagpur city, 161 cases were reported, it said. Of the fresh deaths, eight were from Mumbai city, while six infected people died in Nagpur. Out of the total 2,294 new cases, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), accounted for 864.
The MMR -- which includes Mumbai city and its satellite towns -- has till now reported 6,84,217 cases and 19,374 deaths. The country's financial capital alone has witnessed 3,03,625 cases and 11,259 deaths till now.
Maharashtras current COVID-19 recovery rate is 94.98 per cent, while the fatality rate is 2.53 per cent, the department said. Currently, 2,18,058 people are in home quarantine and 1,996 in institutional quarantine in the state.
As many as 49,380 new coronavirus tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 1,38,95,277, it said.
