Police arrested a 24-year-old man for impersonating a police official at a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exam centre in Akola district. According to a report in PTI, the arrestee has been identified as Anupam Madan Khandare.

The PTI report stated that Khandare, on Wednesday, attempted to help his sister, who is appearing for the Class 12 Board Exams at Shahbabu Urdu High School in Patur, during the test. Reportedly, he went to the exam centre wearing a fake khaki uniform.

However, his behaviour roused suspicion of a senior police officer who had arrived at the centre to oversee its security provisions. Khandare's awkward salute and the poor quality of his uniform drew the attention of the officials present prompting them to investigate further.

The report added that upon closer inspection, the officials spotted that Khandare's uniform was poorly stitched confirming their suspicions of impersonation. They (the cops) then interrogated him and learnt that the accused was intending to pass chits to his sister during the exam.

Consequently, Khandare was arrested on charges of cheating and impersonating a government servant.

The Maharashtra HSC exams are currently underway, the exams began on February 21 and will be concluding on March 19. Combining all the three streams--Arts, Science and Commerce--across Maharashtra nearly 15 lakh students are appearing for the HSC board examination.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a Class 12 student has allegedly gone missing after he left home to appear for the HSC board exam in Navi Mumbai of Maharashtra. According to a report in PTI, the 17-year-old boy from Navi Mumbai allegedly went missing after leaving home in Ghansoli around 8.45 am on Wednesday to attend the exam at a Vashi college, an officer from Rabale police station said.

According to the PTI story, the Navi Mumbai child did not return home till late that night, at which point they searched for him and eventually approached the police. The police have filed a case under Section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code based on the father's complaint. The official told the news agency that they are making every effort to find the youngster.
