NCP leader Yogesh Kshirsagar joined the BJP on Sunday at a function in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state minister Pankaja Munde.

Kshirsagar, who headed the Ajit Pawar-led NCP’s Beed assembly unit, had resigned a day earlier, submitting his letter to state unit president Sunil Tatkare. Sources said he felt sidelined as key policy decisions were being taken by the state general secretary and former MLA Amarsinh Pandit, reported news agency PTI.

Kshirsagar had contested the 2024 assembly elections from Beed on an NCP ticket but lost by 5,300 votes.

According to PTI, he comes from a prominent political family: his father, Dr Bharatbhushan Kshirsagar, formerly led the Beed Municipal Council; his grandmother, the late Kesharbai Kshirsagar, was a three-term MP and also an MLA; and his uncle, Jaidatt Kshirsagar, served as an MLA four times and held ministerial posts for nearly 15 years.

Shiv Sena announces in-charge leaders for upcoming municipal council and nagar panchayat elections

For the upcoming municipal council and nagar panchayat elections, the Shiv Sena on Thursday announced the list of election in-charges. The announcement was made by the party head and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde. The party has declared in-charges for 31 districts across the state, entrusting responsibilities to Shiv Sena Ministers and Members of Parliament.

“As per Shinde’s directives, meticulous planning has been undertaken to ensure that neither the Shiv Sena nor the Mahayuti (grand alliance) suffers any setbacks in the Maharashtra local body elections,” a press release issued by the party stated on Thursday, adding that senior leaders have been assigned special responsibilities to strengthen the party organisation in every district.

These in-charges have been tasked with coordinating with local workers, conveying the party’s policies, development initiatives, and the Mahayuti government’s "pro-people schemes" to the public. The list announced today includes ministers, Members of Parliament (MPs), and legislators.
