The Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (SP) general secretary Rohit Pawar on Thursday claimed the BJP was trying to break its own allies Shiv Sena and the NCP in Maharashtra by inducting their leaders, reported the PTI.

The Opposition party MLA alleged that the BJP, heading the Mahayuti government in the state, has launched "Operation Lotus Part 2" to lure leaders from the Shiv Sena and the NCP, and bring them into its fold.

The Shiv Sena and the NCP, headed by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, respectively, are constituents of the ruling Mahayuti alliance.

"The first Operation Lotus was about breaking (Sharad) Pawar saheb's party (undivided NCP) and Uddhav Thackeray's party (united Shiv Sena). But Operation Lotus Part 2 is about breaking the Ajit Pawar-led NCP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, according to the PTI.

"Yesterday, we saw some former MLAs and NCP leaders from Solapur joining the BJP. Similarly, some leaders from the Shinde-led Shiv Sena have also joined the BJP in Marathwada," the legislator said while speaking to reporters in Pune, the news agency reported.

The NCP (SP) politician maintained that a time will come when Ajit Pawar and Shinde will return to their original fold.

The united Shiv Sena and the NCP split in 2022 and 2023, respectively, when Shinde and Ajit Pawar joined hands with the BJP along with the MLAs supporting them.

FIR filed after MLA Rohit Pawar

Meanwhile, the police in Mumbai have registered an FIR against unidentified individuals after Maharashtra NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar demonstrated the creation of a fake Aadhaar card in the name of US President Donald Trump and its alleged use to register bogus voters, officials said on Thursday, as per the PTI.

Pawar described the filing of the FIR as “laughable”, insisting he was merely highlighting flaws in the Aadhaar system and had not engaged in any forgery.

Speaking to reporters in Pune on Thursday, the Opposition MLA said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis should have contacted him directly to obtain details and ordered an inquiry into the matter.

“But after wasting 15 days, all they’ve done is file a pointless FIR,” said the NCP (SP) general secretary.

On 16 October, Pawar held a press conference where he demonstrated how fake Aadhaar cards could be created via a website and subsequently used to register bogus voters.

BJP’s social media cell co-convener, Dhananjay Wagaskar, reportedly viewed this demonstration on a YouTube channel, which also made allegations against a BJP office-bearer.

Taking serious note of the content, Wagaskar lodged a police complaint against the unidentified creator, owner, and user of the website, among others, a police official confirmed.

According to the FIR, the complainant alleged that the political leader’s actions amounted to a fraudulent act that endangered social security and sought to incite anger and hatred against an “autonomous institution in India” and the BJP.

By creating fake Aadhaar cards via a bogus website, an attempt was allegedly made to mislead the public and stir discord and enmity between different groups in society, the complaint stated.

Following the complaint, cyber police on Tuesday registered a case against two unidentified individuals under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to forgery, identity theft, and the circulation of false information, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.
