<p>A 26-year-old woman from Ambernath in Maharashtra <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-fiancee-family-booked-for-mans-suicide-on-facebook-live-23430511?md-search-tim%20may-breakingnews=" rel="nofollow">allegedly died by suicide </a>barely six weeks after her marriage, with her family accusing her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to dowry-related harassment.</p>
<p>The deceased, Vishakha Tilekar, had married Dr. Nitin Tilekar, an Ambernath resident, on April 30, who has now been arrested, reported IANS.&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Family alleges harassment and surveillance</h2>
<p>Her family claimed that while everything appeared normal before the wedding, she allegedly began facing difficulties and harassment soon after moving into her matrimonial home.</p>
<p>Relatives alleged that she was repeatedly taunted for not bringing enough money and jewellery from her parental home. They also claimed that she was criticised over the wedding arrangements and what her in-laws considered<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-court-acquits-indian-army-officer-and-parents-in-dowry-case-after-a-decade-23593326" rel="nofollow"> inadequate respect shown by her family,</a> as per the news agency.</p>
<p>The family further alleged that her husband, Dr. Nitin Tilekar, had installed CCTV cameras inside and outside the house to monitor her activities. According to the complaint, she was not allowed to communicate freely with her family members and was kept under constant surveillance, which left her feeling isolated and distressed.</p>
<p>According to news reports, they also alleged that she was physically assaulted for interacting with neighbours. Two days before the incident, her husband reportedly beat her for speaking to a female neighbour.</p>
<h2>Parents planned to bring her home</h2>
<p>Before her death, the woman had reportedly informed her mother about the harassment and difficulties she was facing at her matrimonial home.</p>
<p>Concerned about her well-being, her parents had started making arrangements to bring her back home. However, before they could do so, she allegedly died by suicide at her residence.</p>
<h2>Police register case and arrest husband</h2>
<p>Following a complaint from the woman's family, the Shivajinagar Police registered a case against Dr. Nitin Tilekar and other members of his family under provisions related to dowry harassment and abetment to suicide.</p>
<p>Police officials have confirmed the arrest of Dr. Nitin Tilekar in connection with the case.</p>
<h2>Investigation underway</h2>
<p>Investigators are <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/court-cites-lackadaisical-investigation-orders-cbi-probe-in-2023-thane-dowry-death-case-23626668" rel="nofollow">currently examining all allegations made by the family</a>, including claims of dowry-related harassment, physical abuse, and surveillance.</p>
<p>Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.</p>
