In response to the recent floods in Solapur and Beed districts of Maharashtra, Reliance Foundation has launched a wide-ranging relief and recovery initiative to help 4,000 severely affected families, an official statement said on Wednesday.

The effort is focused on livestock protection, access to food and essentials, and public health risk management, it said.

The statement said that floods can lead to deadly livestock diseases such as Haemorrhagic Septicaemia and Black Quarter (HS-BQ) and to prevent this, Reliance Foundation organised veterinary camps in coordination with the Solapur district administration.

Around 22,000 animals have been vaccinated with HS-BQ vaccines based on the risk assessment by the Animal Husbandry Department, it said.

"Silage bags are being provided to affected livestock farmers to ensure adequate fodder," the statement said.

It said that in Beed district, medical camps are also being conducted to protect the livelihoods of families that depend on animals and in Solapur, many families displaced by the floods have been left without shelter and access to basic services. To assist them:

"Reliance Foundation has supported community kitchens with supplies to serve fresh, nutritious meals," it further said.

Hygiene and sanitation kits including items for personal hygiene, menstrual hygiene, and oral rehydration salts are being distributed to help families stay healthy and prevent waterborne diseases.

A Reliance Foundation spokesperson said, “We are deeply moved by the damage caused by floods in central Maharashtra and are fully committed to supporting the affected families in Solapur and Beed as they navigate these difficult times and rebuild their lives.”
