This Independence Day comes a day after the naval submarine &#39;INS Sindhurakshak&#39; tragedy, Chavan said, and assured all help to Navy from the state government. &quot;Our government is making efforts to provide sufficient and continuous electricity for industrial and agricultural use,&quot; he said. In Pune, Maharashtra Governor K Shankarnarayanan unfurled the Tricolour at the Council hall to mark the Independence Day. A large gathering, including Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, freedom fighters, top government and police officials and other dignitaries graced the occasion. The city celebrated the 67th Independence Day with various political parties and social organisations holding flag-hoisting ceremonies with gaiety and enthusiasm. Police exercised extra vigilance in view of the terror threat to the city, with mock drills to maintain a high level of alert. In Nashik, the flag-hoisting ceremony was held at Nashik Revenue Commissionerate, where Divisional Commissioner Ravindra Jadhav unfurled the national flag in presence of top government officials, MLAs, MPs and prominent citizens. Maharashtra PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal, NCP MP Sameer Bhujbal and other party leaders attended the flag-hoisting ceremony at the NCP office there.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today said that to ensure state's leading position in the country, the government would stress on the five-point programme which includes balanced industrial development.
