Konkan Railway honours its staff for outstanding and timely safety actions

Konkan Railway on Tuesday said that it has continued to strengthen its safety culture through the ‘On-the-Spot Cash Award’ initiative, which recognises employees who identify safety threats in real time and take immediate action to prevent accidents, officials said.

The scheme, introduced by Santosh Kumar Jha, CMD of KRCL, encourages prompt reporting and reinforces the organisation’s commitment to passenger and operational safety.


During the first half of the financial year 2025-26, several employees across different departments demonstrated remarkable alertness by detecting potential risks, preventing unsafe situations, and responding quickly to emergencies. Their swift actions helped avert possible accidents and ensured smooth train operations.



Konkan Railway has honoured the following employees for their outstanding contributions to safety-

P. V. Rawool, TM–IV – Detected a fracture in the point and crossing stock rail at Km 353/020–040 (Sawantwadi Road - Zarap Section), preventing a potential derailment. Award: Rs 15,000.

Ms. Suvidha Swami, Station Master / Kankavali – Reported a hanging FP pipe of DN RO-RO SHRN KR–MANGAL rake at Sindhudurg Station, averting equipment failure. Award: Rs 1,000.

Narayan Nemlekar, Pointsman / Achirne – Alertly detected a hanging FP pipe of DN RO-RO SHRN KR–MANGAL rake at Achirne Station. Award: Rs 1,000.

Ranjit Singh and Mahendra Pal, RPF Staff, and Veer Singh, Authorised Vendor – Rescued a passenger who slipped while alighting from a moving train (Train No. 01167) at Ratnagiri Station, preventing a serious accident. Award: Rs 5,000 each.

P. L. Sawant, Trackman (P-29) – Detected a rail fracture inside a tunnel at Km 191/5–6 (Ukshi-Bhoke), preventing a major incident. Award: Rs 10,000.

Sandesh Chavan, TTE / Ratnagiri – Rescued a child from a suspicious person on Train No. 11003 (Tutari Express) at Thane Station. Award: Rs 15,000.

These awards highlight the important role of Konkan Railway’s frontline staff in maintaining high safety standards. Their vigilance not only protects passengers and railway assets but also motivates colleagues to remain alert at all times.

Konkan Railway said it will continue to recognise such commendable actions to promote a strong safety culture and ensure reliable train operations.
