Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange was admitted to a private hospital in Maharashtra's Jalna district on Tuesday after he complained of weakness and discomfort, a doctor at the facility said, reported the PTI.
He was admitted to a hospital in Shahagad in the evening.
Manoj Jarange suffered from hyperacidity, vomiting, and low blood pressure, a doctor from Sakunde Hospital said, according to the PTI.
The medical team provided necessary treatment, and his condition is now stable. He will be discharged after observation, the hospital informed.
Earlier in the day, the activist, who has undertaken several hunger strikes demanding a reservation for the Maratha community, warned of a fresh agitation on August 29.
Jarange on Tuesday accused the Maharashtra government of failing to fulfil its promises to the Maratha community and warned of launching a fresh hunger strike in Mumbai on August 29, reported PTI.
Speaking to media persons at Antarwali Sarthi village in Jalna district, Jarange alleged that the government has deceived the Maratha community.
The activist has launched multiple hunger strikes demanding that all Marathas be recognised as Kunbis, an agrarian caste classified under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category and reservation in government jobs and education for the politically influential community, reported PTI.
He has consistently advocated for the implementation of historical records, such as the Bombay, Satara, and Hyderabad gazettes, which he claims provide documented evidence of the Maratha community being classified as Kunbis.
"Four major demands of the Marathas, which the government assured would be implemented, have not been fulfilled. The government has once again deceived the community," Jarange said. He warned of undertaking a fresh hunger strike in Mumbai on August 29 and launching a march to the city, as reported by PTI.
"We have been patient for the last two years. Now the time has come to rise. I appeal to all Marathas, don't sit silently. We must fight for our rights," he said, urging community members to wrap up their farming activities in two months and prepare to march to Mumbai.
The activist strongly criticised the administration for its failure to issue the government gazette related to the Sage Soyare notification and for not implementing the historical gazettes of Bombay, Satara, and Hyderabad. He claimed that over 58 lakh documents have been gathered to establish that Kunbis and Marathas are the same community and demanded that Kunbi certificates be issued based on this evidence, reported PTI.
While acknowledging the Shinde Committee's efforts in uncovering key documents, the activist criticised government officials for failing to issue Kunbi certificates despite the available evidence, reported PTI.
Jarange also slammed the state government for not withdrawing cases filed against Maratha reservation protesters, calling it a betrayal of the community’s trust.
"I will not back down this time. The government must act or face the consequences," he said, reported PTI.
