One person died and six others were injured after a slab came crashing down on them during construction work at an under-construction fire station of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra's Kolhapur, an official said, reported news agency ANI.
The official added that the fire brigade rescued five people in the Kolhapur building slab collapse incident, which took place on Tuesday night.
Kolhapur Municipal Corporation Chief Fire Officer Manish Ranbise told ANI, "Today, construction work for the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation Fire Department building was underway. The slab work was in its final stage. But the slab has collapsed. Six people, including the contractor and the other staff, were trapped inside. The fire brigade rescued five people..."
However, Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Dhiraj Kumar Bachchu confirmed that one person died after the roof of an under-construction Kolhapur building slab collapsed in the Fulewadi area, reported ANI. More details are awaited.
16 electrical meters damaged in fire in Thane building
In another incident, a fire broke out in the electrical meter box room of a building in Maharashtra's Thane city early on Wednesday, damaging 16 meters, an official said, reported PTI.
No person was injured in the incident, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said, reported PTI.
The blaze erupted on the ground floor of the three-storey Dnyaneshwar Smriti Society in the Dhokali area. A total of 16 electric meters were damaged, he said, reported PTI.
The fire control room reported it at 4.36 am, the official said, adding the blaze was limited to the electrical meters.
Personnel of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company and the fire brigade rushed to the spot and the blaze was extinguished by around 5 am, he said, reported PTI.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, the official said.
Four labourers injured in LPG cylinder blast
Meanwhile, four labourers were injured, two of them critically, in the blast of an LPG cylinder at a construction site in Ghatkopar area late on Tuesday evening, a civic official said.
The incident took place at a temporary shed erected for workers at an under-construction 7-storey building near Vidyaniketan College, around 9.11 pm, he said. The injured were taken to the nearby Rajawadi hospital.
Ghanshyam Yadav (36) and Devendra Pal (26) suffered 60 to 70 per cent burns and were in a critical condition, while Mahendra Choudhari (32) and Sandeep Pal (20) sustained 10 to 12 per cent and 5 per cent burns, respectively, and were in a stable condition, the official said.
This was the second incident of a gas cylinder blast in the city within a week. Last Wednesday, seven people, including six women, were injured in a cylinder blast in Kandivali. Six of them, all women, died during treatment.
