Amravati's guardian minister Yashomati Thakur, on Saturday informed that section 144 has been imposed across the city in view of the back to back stone-pelting incidents on Friday and Saturday.
The curfew will be into effect within city limits only and will remain in force until further notifications.
Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis has said, &ldquo;We condemn protests and violence happening in Maharashtra. Tripura Police have exposed fake photos posted on social media. I appeal to people of Amravati to maintain social harmony and peace. There should be action against leaders giving inciting speeches.&rdquo;
Nationalist Congress Party leader Nawab Malik said, &ldquo;strict action will be taken against culprits and that it was the responsibility of organisers to protest peacefully.&rdquo;
What happened in Amravati?
On Saturday morning, a mob hurled stones and damaged shops at various places in Amravati city during a bandh allegedly organised by BJP prompting the police to lathicharge the protesters, an official said. The bandh was called against Friday&rsquo;s stone-pelting incidents in Amravati during rallies held by Muslim organisations in protest against the Tripura communal violence.
