The police said that four minor boys were killed and two others suffered injuries after a truck knocked them down in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district on Thursday morning, reported news agency PTI.
The accident took place on Armori-Gadchiroli highway at around 5 am, they said.
As per preliminary information, the six minors, in the age group of 12 to 16 years, were sitting on a roadside in Katli village, located 12 km from the district headquarters, when a truck hit them, a senior police official said, reported PTI.
Four of them died and two others suffered injuries, he said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he was extremely pained by the unfortunate and tragic accident.
"Extremely pained by the unfortunate, tragic accident on the Armori - Gadchiroli highway in Gadchiroli District where 4 youth lost their life. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We stand with them in this tough moment of grief and loss. 2 youths have been injured in this accident and are currently receiving medical treatment at Gadchiroli General Hospital. Chopper arrangements are made to airlift them to Nagpur. They will be moved to Nagpur for further medical treatment within 1 hour. An ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh will be provided to the families of the deceased, and the State Government will bear all the expenses towards the medical treatment for the injured," he said in a post on X.

Unidentified vehicle mows down 2 women in Maharashtra's Parbhani
In another incident, two women out on a morning walk were killed when an unidentified vehicle knocked them down in Maharashtra's Parbhani district on Thursday, police said, reported PTI.
The accident took place at around 5.30 am on the Gangakhed-Parbhani highway, an official from Daithana police station told PTI.
The vehicle, which was yet to be identified, hit the two women on a road located 1.5 km away from Daithana village, he said.
The injured women, both hailing from the Daithana village, were taken to a hospital where they were declared dead, the official said.
The deceased have been identified as Pushpabai Kachve (69) and Anjanabai Shisode (55), the police said, reported PTI.
