The officials said a truck ran over six people who were removing a crashed vehicle from the road in Beed district of Maharashtra on Monday, reported news agency PTI.

At around 8.30 pm, a car driven by Deepak Atkare of Gevrai climbed over the divider on a stretch of National Highway-52 near Gadhi village, about 100 km from Mumbai, reported PTI.


While some people were busy removing the car, a truck mowed them down at around 11.30 pm, they said. Six of them died while one was injured, they added.



The dead were identified as Balu Atkare, Bhagwat Paralkar, Sachin Nannavre, Manoj Karande, Krushna Jadhav, and Deepak Surayya -- all residents of Georai in Beed, they said, reported PTI.

Efforts are underway to trace the driver of the truck, they said.

Uttarakhand: Car falls into ditch in Tehri, 4 senior citizens die

In another incident, four elderly people died when a car fell into a ditch on the Kirtinagar-Badhiyargarh road in Tehri district of Uttarakhand on Monday, officials said, reported PTI.

All four people were returning to a village after attending a religious function organised in Badhiyargarh, they said.

They were all residents of Chandigarh and had come to visit their village, Malgarhi, Kirtinagar Tehsildar Pradeep Kandari said, reported PTI.

He said their car suddenly went out of control and fell 40 metres down into a ditch.
Teams of the tehsil administration and State Disaster Response Force were deployed for rescue work.

Kandhari said that the four people were taken out of the car and immediately rushed to Srikot Base Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

Darshan Singh Aswal (70), Dharam Singh Aswal, (70) Karna Singh Panwar (65) and Rajendra Singh Panwar (60) died in the accident, reported PTI.

The exact cause of the accident could not be ascertained and the administration has ordered an inquiry.
