Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar has demanded strict action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) after a youth from the Matang community was brutally assaulted in Ahilyanagar district.
According to Ambedkar, victim Sanjay Vairagar was allegedly abducted from Sonai village by a group of 15 to 20 people and taken to an undisclosed location, where he was severely beaten.
“In an extremely cruel act, the accused reportedly ran a motorcycle over the victim’s hands and legs, breaking them, assaulted him severely causing damage to one of his eyes, and even urinated on him before abandoning him at an unknown location,” Ambedkar said in a post on X on Thursday.
According to the news agency PTI, the Dalit leader also claimed that the attackers are reportedly linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Vairagar has been admitted to a government hospital. Ambedkar said he spoke with the victim’s father over the phone and assured the family of full support, adding, “Our demand is that action be taken against the accused under MCOCA. I will soon meet the victim’s family.”
Earlier on Thursday, VBA state general secretary Prof Kisan Chavan and district office-bearers visited the hospital and met the victim’s family, assuring them that the party stood firmly with them, Ambedkar said.
Maharashtra: Six arrested as student dies after assault during freshers' party at Latur college
In a shocking incident in Maharashtra’s Latur district, a student died allegedly after being assaulted during a freshers' party at a private college. The alleged suicide led the police officials to arrest six pupils, as per the officials.
As reported by news agency PTI, the incident occurred on October 8 during the freshers' party organised at the well-known college in the MIDC area of Latur, said the police officials.
Police officials, while elaborating about the incident, emphasised that “A minor dispute that began while dancing during the bash soon escalated into violence when the victim. The deceased student had an argument with a group of fellow students. In a fit of rage, the group allegedly attacked Shinde with sticks and fists,” as cited by news agency PTI.
According to the official release, “The deceased student sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died during treatment. Following the incident, police registered a case of murder based on a complaint by one of the college goers and arrested four students till October 16,” as cited by news agency PTI.
Furthermore, two more students were arrested on Tuesday, after their involvement in the assault came to light, taking the number of those nabbed to 6, stated the police.
As per the police officials, all of them were booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections related to murder, voluntarily causing hurt, causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or means, criminal intimidation and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, among others, as reported by news agency PTI.
