Unseasonal rainfall
In the past year, unseasonal rainfall was seen in pockets of Marathwada in May. Excess rainfall of 125 to 150 per cent was recorded in various districts of the region, said an official while indicating the loss to agricultural activities due to the weather conditions.
An official said, “The region was devastated by floods in September-October 2025. Out of the total 1,129 suicides recorded last year, 537 deaths took place during the May to October period when rain-related calamities plagued the region."

An earlier report highlighted that as many as 899 farmers committed suicide in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra from January to October in 2025. The report further highlighted that 537 of them took their lives in six months when floods caused massive damage to crops.
Expressing his views on that, the Minister of State for Agriculture, Ashish Jaiswal, said the government is seriously addressing the issue and has increased the spending on dedicated schemes and incentives to Rs 1 lakh crore.
