You know those women who look like they subsist daily on an exclusive diet of a glass of Perrier (with a twist of lime), two cups of black coffee, a celery leaf, three bacon rashers and a bottle of bubbly.
But the ladies who'd gathered at Bindu Kapoor's on Wednesday to celebrate Karva Chauth with some choice feasting (pani puri, dahi batata puri, dim sums, sushi, dips, salads, mithais etc) were definitely from the 'Ladies who Lunch' category.
Amidst much greeting and laughter, bonhomie and festive cheer, we spotted a slew of colourful women in their traditional best &mdash; lawyer Abha Singh, jewellery designer Poonam Soni, ad film producer Aarti Surendranath, gallerist Kalpana Shah, chocolatier Zeba Kohli, art and culture patron Madhu Ruia and former actress Madhoo Shah &mdash; among many others, partaking of the offerings of the afternoon like mehendi application, festive music and much food and beverage. And so we too joined in the merry-making until we realised it was the bewitching hour (4 pm and there was work to do) and had to take our leave.
But even as we waited to depart, cars were still arriving and emitting more and more groups of colourfully dressed women into the building's foyer and the party looked like it was in no hurry to wind up. And no one was particularly concerned that elsewhere their arguments raged against 'regressive misogynist rituals' like the one at hand.
That was for another kind of woman, most likely who go by the title 'Babes who Graze'. After all ladies who lunch are quite sensible and do not mind skipping a meal or two if it helps to knock off a few calories while it propitiates a few Gods in the process.
Off the beaten track She's always been known for her sass and style, which is why when attractive designer Surily Goel was approaching her big birthday, she chose the beautiful kingdom of Bhutan, the Land of the Dragon People eschewing the more cliched destinations like Tuscany, Ibiza and Mykonos to take her friends.

What's more from all accounts the getaway with her besties is said to have been set apart by its attention to detail and the warm vibes and happy smiles it afforded. From the likes of Preity Zinta, Dino Morea, Pratap Singh Rao Gaekwad, to Haseena Jethmalani, Gayatri Rangachari Shah and Mallika Advani, they all appeared to be genuinely relaxed and having a great time.
After all, nothing less could be expected from the land where success is measured by the standards of the Gross National Happiness of its people.
