A day after Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge underwent pacemaker implantation, he is set to begin work soon.

The leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha was shifted to the hospital on Tuesday.

Kharge, 83, recently underwent pacemaker implantation and has been reported as stable. The leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha is expected to resume his official engagements from October 3, according to his son and Karnataka IT Minister, Priyank Kharge.

Earlier on Wednesday, the 83-year-old leader was admitted to the city's M S Ramaiah Hospital on Tuesday and underwent the procedure on Wednesday.

While addressing his condition, Priyank Kharge posted on X and wrote, "The pacemaker implantation procedure for Shri Kharge was successfully completed earlier today. It was a short and minor procedure, and he has been stable after the procedure. He is expected to resume his work from October 3 and attend all his scheduled engagements. Our gratitude for the concern, support and affection extended by all,” as per PTI.

However, Rajya Sabha member Mallikarju Kharge on Thursday himself assured about his good recovery while posting on X. Kharge further stated that he will assume the office as soon as possible.

Kharge, thanking the people for all the wishes, wrote on X, "My sincere thanks to the Congress cadres, leaders and supporters for the outpouring of wishes. My deepest gratitude."

He further wrote, "I intend to start my work schedule soon."

As reported by news agency PTI, the doctors who have been treating the senior Congress leader have advised him to rest after surgery.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also enquired about Kharge's health and wished him a speedy recovery.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, "Spoke to Kharge Ji. Enquired about his health and wished him a speedy recovery. Praying for his continued well-being and long life."

However, despite his health concerns, Mallikarjun Kharge is scheduled to visit Kohima on October 7 and address a public rally at Naga Solidarity Park, as per PTI.
