West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today sang a Rabindranath Tagore song at a function on the occasion of the poet&#39;s 72nd death anniversary. The audience heard with rapt attention as the Chief Minister held the microphone and sang &#39;jharo jharo barishe baridhara&#39; at the programme organised by the Rabindra Bharati University at Tagore&#39;s ancestral residence at Jorasanko. <img alt="Mamata Banerjee" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jan/Mamata-Banerjee.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 481px;" /> Mamata Banerjee &quot;Rabindranath Tagore will remain immortal in the minds of people and his work will inspire us for ages to come,&quot; she said in her speech. Earlier, she released a book &#39;Gitanjali India&#39; in 14 languages, including in English, Hindi and Bengali at the state secretariat. The 680-page book is priced at Rs 2500.u00a0 This is not the first instance of the West Bengal CM singing in public. In 2011, u00a0she had paid homage to Kazi Nazrul Islam on his 112th birth anniversary by singing one his songs. The chief minister had asked two women employees at the Writers&#39; Building to sing any of the poet&#39;s songs, to which she would then lend her voice at the ceremony. She then sang the poet&#39;s patriotic song &#39;Durgama Giri Kantar Maru&#39;.

She paid homage to Rabindranath Tagore on his 72th death anniversary by singing one of his songs. She sang the song jharo jharo barishe baridhara.
