Man hangs himself from Chinchwad bridge

A man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from Chinchwad bridge in Thergaon yesterday evening. Several persons who were fishing in the river below the bridge noticed Balasaheb Mahadev Chandane, a resident of Vetalnagar, Chinchwad, jumping off the bridge and realised that he had hanged himself. According to the police, Chandane was inebriated at the time of the incident.

The bridge is always crowded and Chandane tied the rope to the railing of bridge and jumped off. u00a0“The Chinchwad Bridge is used by local people going to fish. Chandane was seen clutching a rope by the locals, but no one thought much of it,” said a passer by.u00a0

The fire brigade and the police arrived on the spot and hoisted the body, which was later sent for autopsy to Aundh Civil Hospital. Parshuram Patil, inspector (crime), Hinjewadi police station, said “He may have committed suicide while under the influence of alcohol. We also suspect he may have taken the extreme step due to family problems.”u00a0
