Manipur Police have significantly reinforced security measures ahead of the crucial farming season to prevent any untoward incidents and guarantee the safety of farmers, a statement from the department read.

This intensification of security follows a pivotal Combined Headquarters (CHQ) meeting held on June 28 at Phubala in Bishnupur District, news agency ANI reported.

The meeting, chaired by the security advisor alongside the chief secretary and the director general of police saw the participation of all security forces. The primary agenda was to review the existing security arrangements pertaining to the agricultural activities, enhance the coordination among forces, and prevent a recurrence of incidents similar to those recently witnessed in Bishnupur District, reported ANI.

Manipur Police personnel are now deployed across several vulnerable farming areas in both the hill and valley regions. They are actively assisting Central Security Forces in providing comprehensive security to these agricultural zones and their ongoing activities, the statement read.

Furthermore, the Manipur Police stated that a redeployment of Central Security Forces has been carried out in the vicinity of the Phubala area to further strengthen security provisions, ANI reported.

Subsequently, "enhanced security protocols" have been disseminated to all district superintendents of police (SSP) for immediate implementation.

In a concerted effort to address the potential threats, joint combing operations are being conducted regularly in fringe areas, including deep within the hills, to flush out any miscreants. The latest update from the Manipur Police confirms that security the forces are continuing to conduct thorough search operations and area domination exercises across several districts, focusing on fringe and vulnerable zones.

These operations have already yielded results. A pistol and ammunition were recovered from the Wangoo Naodakhong area, falling under the Kumbi Police Station in Bishnupur district, as announced on the official X handle of Manipur Police.

Meanwhile, in a separate recent operation, police apprehended Thokchom Rajesh Meitei, 41, of Bamon Kampu Mayai Leikai, Imphal East, in the Bamon Kampu Makha Leikai area under Irilbung Police Station, Imphal East district. He was found in possession of an AK rifle, live ammunition, 32 pistol, and one magazine.
