After its lottery system for allotment of flats went online, the government body is now contemplating digitisation for things such as payment of rent and transfer of their homes. The proposal has been approved by senior authorities who are chalking out a plan for implementation
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) seems to be in the mood to make the lives of their residents easier. MHADA’s Mumbai board is aiming towards digitisation, which would help residents of nearly 2.5 lakh homes. The board is planning to go online and a proposal for the same was moved in a meeting recently.

According to sources in MHADA, the proposal has been okayed, and higher authorities are serious about its implementation. This change is bound to make things more convenient for residents of MHADA’s old and new buildings, as they would now beable to access everything at one place. This will include payingthe rent, transfer fee for their homes among other things.
Earlier, it was the lottery of MHADA homes that went online. From accepting forms to even accepting payments for their homes from lucky applicants, everything was done on the Internet. Now, MHADA aims to accept rent for their homes, allot tenements online and even accept transfer fee from occupants of their buildings.
This is the first time that the organisation has planned anything for the existing residents of their buildings. There are nearly 2.5 lakh such MHADA buildings in Mumbai, including old and new ones. Once online, there will be a single window destination for all of them for their queries.
“Currently, our staff goes to every home to complete the procedures like collecting rent and other things. There are times when people are not at home, thus causing delays in payments. Now, they will easily be able to make payments to MHADA with just a click of the mouse. This will not only make life easy for the residents, even the officials won’t have to delay things because their staff wouldn’t be involved in time-consuming work,” said a senior official from MHADA.
MHADA recently allowed its residents to rent their flats. Earlier, this facility was available only for those who have stayed in MHADA homes for more than five to 10 years. But now, there’s no such embargo on renting the flats. So people wanting to make the payment to MHADA for the same can make it online.
