On Wednesday, a day after MiD DAY reported Neha Tamang's death under suspicious conditions, around 80 people held a rally outside the scan centre demanding justice for the young girl.
Meanwhile, the police said they were awaiting a medical report before filing a case against the GMR centre. "As per a Supreme Court ruling, in such situations, we can only register a case after we receive a report from the government-appointed medical board. The report should come to us within a few days after which we will be able to decide whether to register a case or not," said a senior police official at the Sarojini Nagar police station.
The police said that the post mortem on the victim Neha Tamang's body will be conducted on Thursday.
After her death, Neha Tamang's parents had alleged that she had died due to medical negligence. They had also alleged that one Dr Javed from the MRI centre had forced them to sign on some blank papers, which the doctor later accepted on a taped telephonic conversation, were consent forms to conduct the scan.
Neha Tamang's father Nima Tamang said that he hoped justice would prevail. "I hope the police arrest the doctor who killed my daughter. We have to take our daughter Neha Tamang's body back home. I pray to the police to conduct the post mortem as soon as possible and hand us over her body," he said.
Ashok Kumar Biswa, one of Neha Tamang's relatives, said Dr Javed had promised to return the papers on which he had made Nima sign after the girl's death. "But Dr Javed is yet to give us the papers," said Biswa.
The clinic has been shut since the incident.
