<p>Prateek Yadav, the younger son of late <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/samajwadi-party-chief-akhilesh-yadav-backs-womens-reservation-bill-targets-bjp-agenda-23625859" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Samajwadi Party</a> founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, died in Lucknow on Wednesday morning. He was 38.</p>
<p>According to reports, Prateek suddenly fell ill in the early hours of the day and was rushed to a civil hospital in Lucknow by family members. Doctors later declared him dead at the hospital.</p>
<p>The exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Officials said further details are expected after the post-mortem examination report is released.</p>
<p>Prateek was the stepbrother of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and the son of Sadhna Gupta, the second wife of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/photo/in-photos-check-out-rare-and-unseen-photos-of-sp-founder-mulayam-singh-yadav--94156/9" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mulayam Singh Yadav</a>.</p>
<h2>Stayed away from active politics</h2>
<p>Despite belonging to one of Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s most prominent political families, Prateek Yadav largely kept himself away from electoral politics and public political activity.</p>
<p>He was known for his interest in fitness and business ventures and maintained a relatively low public profile compared to other members of the Yadav family.</p>
<p>Prateek was married to Aparna Yadav in 2011. Aparna Yadav has remained politically active over the years and is currently serving as the vice-chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women&rsquo;s Commission.</p>
<p>She had contested the 2017 <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/uttar-pradesh-yogi-adityanath-says-historic-day-for-saharanpur-as-pm-modi-inaugurates-economic-corridor-23625662" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Uttar Pradesh</a> Assembly elections from the Lucknow Cantonment seat on a Samajwadi Party ticket but lost to senior BJP leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi.</p>
<p>Aparna later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2022 and was appointed vice-chairperson of the State Women&rsquo;s Commission in 2024.</p>
<h2>Samajwadi Party expresses grief</h2>
<p>The Samajwadi Party condoled Prateek Yadav&rsquo;s death through a post on social media platform X.</p>

<p>In its message, the party expressed deep sorrow over his demise and prayed for peace for the departed soul.</p>
<p>The news of his death triggered condolences from leaders across party lines in Uttar Pradesh.</p>
<h2>CM Yogi Adityanath condoles death</h2>
<p>Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/yogi-adityanath-to-spearhead-jan-aakrosh-mahila-padyatra-in-lucknow-on-womens-quota-row-23626761" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Yogi Adityanath</a> also expressed grief over Prateek Yadav&rsquo;s death and extended condolences to the bereaved family.</p>
<p>In a post on X, the chief minister described the death as &ldquo;extremely heartbreaking&rdquo; and paid tribute to Prateek.</p>

<p>Adityanath also offered condolences to Aparna Yadav and the extended Yadav family, praying for strength to help them cope with the loss.</p>
<h2>Political family mourns sudden loss</h2>
<p>Prateek Yadav&rsquo;s death comes as a major personal loss for the Yadav family, which has remained one of the most influential political families in Uttar Pradesh for decades.</p>
<p>While he stayed away from direct political engagement, Prateek remained closely connected to the family and was often seen during private and social events.</p>
<p>Leaders and supporters from both the Samajwadi Party and the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/pm-modis-speech-sparks-war-of-words-between-bjp-and-opposition-23629979" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">BJP</a> have continued to pay tributes following news of his passing.</p>
