Enter the historic chamber It&rsquo;s an institution that has become a city landmark. The Indian Merchants&rsquo; Chamber (IMC) was established on this day, back in 1907 in order to provide economic swaraj for India, led by stalwarts like Lokmanya Tilak, Justice Ranade, Dadabhoy Naoroji and Mahatma Gandhi. The Indian business community at the time worked towards liberating Indian industry, trade and commerce from foreign domination. It wholly supported India&rsquo;s political struggle and became the backbone of Indian industry. The Chamber&rsquo;s aim was to help the economy come to terms with several setbacks in the form of wars and British oppression.

Post-independence, the IMC was closely associated with eminent personalities like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Dr S Radhakrishnan and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Often, the Chamber was graced by their presence and thought-provoking addresses.
The Ladies&rsquo; Wing of the IMC was established in 1967 as a movement to empower women entrepreneurs who played a key role in shaping the Indian economy and industry. Way to go!
