Political goons reportedly belonging to the BJP allegedly beat up a civic official in Mumbai&#39;s Borivali suburb on Tuesdayu00a0. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon at Borivali while the official was visiting the area to check on work done by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in trenching of roads. The official -- Santoshkumar Dhonde, assistant municipal commissioner, R-North ward, was allegedly thrashed by people believed to be supporters of veteran BJP leader and Mumbai&rsquo;s Deputy Mayor, Mohan Mithbaokar. A police complaint has been filed at the local police station by the ward officer. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/apr/bashed.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 241px;" /> Mithbaokar and local ward council chairwoman, Manisha Chaudhari, had organised Dhonde&rsquo;s trip. Both Mithbaokar and Chaudhari are BJP corporators from Borivali area. Mithbaokar is a senior corporator in the BMC and has been representing the Eksar area in Borivali for more than 20 years. Confirming the incident, Dhonde said, &ldquo;I, on the request of the two BJP corporators, visited the site and had gave an assurance that the work of de-silting of nullah and trenching of the ground utility would be done soon. However, this didn&rsquo;t go down well with the party workers accompanying the corporators, who wanted the work to be completed immediately. When I said it&rsquo;s not possible they charged at me and slapped me. Both the chairwoman and the deputy mayor were mute spectators and didn&rsquo;t come to my rescue.&rdquo; After this Dhonde registered a complaint against the BJP party workers at Borivali police station. Mithbaokar and Chaudhari remained unavailable for comment, but the party&rsquo;s Mumbai unit chief Raj Purohit has claimed ignorance on the issue. &ldquo;The corporators couldn&rsquo;t stop the party workers as they were agitated. However, whatever they did was wrong and the action against these party workers would be taken by the president of the Mumbai unit. However, I don&rsquo;t feel that there&rsquo;s any need of an action against party workers, because whatever happened was in a fit of rage and related to the public work,&rdquo; said Dilip Patel, group leader of BJP in the BMC.
