By 2020, Navi Mumbai will be unrecognisable as a simple satellite city grappling with the sudden burst of demands from citizens. Soon, recreational activities and iconic structures of international standards will no longer be a dream. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jun/Grand-Entrance.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 281px;" /> The city has been proposed to house an iconic entrance like Gateway of India, an international sports academy, musical fountains, streets covered with trees, multi-storey parking lots and much more, a la Singapore. The best part? No extra taxes will have to be paid for this ambitious one-time plan that was presented by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) yesterday at a District Planning and Development Council (DPDC) meeting in Thane. As per the proposed plan, all the nodes - Central Business District (CBD) Belapur, Nerul, Sanpada, Vashi, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli, Airoli and Trans Thane Creek (TTC) industrial area - will be developed by 2020.u00a0CBD Sector 15 has been chosen for a pilot project that is expected to finish by end of 2013. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jun/International-Stadium.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 281px;" /> Money talk Navi Mumbai was planned and constructed in 1970. The budget for the proposed development plan is estimated at Rs 12,821 crore. Out of that, Rs 3,733 crore will be raised by NMMC, Rs 1,000 crore by MMRDA and Rs 650 crore by JNNURM, Rs 2,443 crore by deferred payment, and Rs 4,995 crore through loans from national and international financial organisations. Navi Mumbai will be developed as an Eco City and The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) have signed an MOU with NMMC for the same. In a citizen-friendly decision, NMMC will share the proposed development plan with the citizens of Navi Mumbai and invite suggestions if any. We know this can&rsquo;t be achieved without the support of administration, all the political parties and the citizens. We can design similar plans for Thane too. This year, NMMC has appointed Crisil to do the financial audit and we are hopeful to achieve AAA rating, so that we can avail loans at low interest rates from International agencies. Vivek Pandit, MLA: Navi Mumbai&rsquo;s mayor and commissioner deserve the credit for this ambitious plan that will make the city truly international class.
