Motive for attack not known, say police

The city police are struggling to find clues to the identity of the miscreants who attacked Police Inspector (Anti-Corruption Branch) Bharat Ramchandra Bhosale (55) with sharp weapons on Monday evening at the busy Tilak road. But what's baffling more them is the motive for the attack.u00a0

Police Inspector Suresh Kekane from Unit II of the Crime Branch, which is simultaneously investigating the case along with the Swargate police said, "We are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the attack, which would give further clues and information about the suspects."

The Swargate police have lodged a case against three unknown suspects in this regard but have information about only one of them. Inspector Bhosale had seen only one assailant, whom he described as round-faced, around 40 with wheatish complexion and wearing a blue-check shirt.

Sources said the details of the phone calls made to Bhosale by the suspects, before the attack, are being scrutinised. Currently, posted at the Anti-Corruption Branch, Bhosale was deputed at Sangli in 1998, and the assailants had given this as reference to interact with him when they called.

Inspector (crime) S N Kamble from Swargate police station said, "Investigations are in progress but we can't reveal all the information at this stage. We are probing the case from all possible angles, including past rivalry.
u00a0Besides, the case of rape and murder of a three-year-old girl Deepali Kasbe from Nigdi also remains unsolved. Seven police teams have fanned out in search of the suspect, but they are far from achieving any positive result.
