The ruling Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) mooted a five-member expert vigilance committee under the leadership of Mayor Vaishali Bankar yesterday. The committee would be monitoring development work in the Pune. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/feb/Vaishali.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 568px;" /> Mayor Vaishali Bankar NCP MP Vandana Chavan said, &ldquo;As the ruling party, we had our own vigilance committee and took two monthly reviews. Now, we have decided to make it more comprehensive and in-depth. The idea of the five-member core vigilance committee was discussed with municipal commissioner Mahesh Pathak. He agreed to appoint five experts or retired PMC officers in the committee to monitor the development works in the city. This will automatically help assess the quality of work done in these projects.&rdquo; Mayor Vaishali Bankar said the state of affairs was such that the civic body had no idea where the old lamp posts were disposed after the installation of the new ones. &ldquo;Similarly, it is difficult to trace destruction on the hills or illegal construction. People should come forward and inform ward officers. We will be providing a toll-free number soon for registering such complaint, which will be addressed immediately,&rdquo; Bankar said. Commenting on the issue, NCP leader of the House Subhash Jagtap said, &ldquo;The PMC administration takes help from Google maps and satellite imagery. We have also requested them to installation of &lsquo;alert&rsquo; software where the changes in the city can be promptly traced.&rdquo; When contacted, civic chief Mahesh Pathak said the civic body had already implemented third party inspection on every development work in the city and its reports would be conveyed to the vigilance committee.u00a0
