Over 300 accidents involving Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport drivers have occurred in the past 9 months
In the past nine months, Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) drivers have been involved in 300 accidents, according to statistics made available by the NMMT’s accident department. Though most of these accidents were non-fatal, the figures have raised serious doubts over NMMT’s efficiency in handling public transport. Blaming the drivers hired on contractual basis for rash and negligent driving, an NMMT official claimed that these drivers hardly follow traffic rules laid by the administration and exhibit carelessness while driving, as they know they are working with the NMMT on a temporary basis.

Passing the buck: The contractual drivers claim that the rise in the number of accidents on Navi Mumbai roads is because the civic transport body hasn’t given them proper training. Representation Pic
