No takers for Solar streetlight contract
Updated On: 12 October, 2012 07:33 AM IST | | Sujit Mahamulkar
Despite floating two tenders last year, no contractor has come forward to take up the offer, claiming that the units and parts are regularly stolen and need constant repair
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has installed 2,400 solar powered streetlights at locations in Worli, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali, Dahisar and Kurla, but over 70 per cent of these are currently not working. The BMC spent Rs 35,000 per unit hoping to save at least 20 to 25 per cent electricity, but their efforts seem to have gone in vain.
