Odisha rains: A low-pressure area formed over the Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a deep depression and cause heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha on November 16, said the Indian Meterological Department (IMD) on Tuesday, reported the ANI.
According to the news agency, the low-pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Islands is likely to intensify into a depression over West-Central Bay of Bengal on November 15, said Sunanda, MD, Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Centre, IMD.

"A low-pressure area formed over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Islands on November 14th. It is likely to move west-north-westwards and intensify into a depression over West-Central Bay of Bengal on November 15th," said Sunanda, as per the PTI.
"Thereafter, it would move north-westwards and may intensify into a deep depression over the West-Central Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Pradesh coast on November 16. Subsequently, it would recurve north-northeastward and reach the north-west bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast on November 17. Due to this system, we are expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall activity over some parts of Odisha, especially coastal Odisha," added Sunanda.
IMD also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea from November 15 to November 17 until further notice.
Meanwhile, the all schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal regions would remain closed on November 15 also as rains continued to lash the regions, the government announced on Tuesday, reported the PTI.
According to the news agency, Home Minister A Namassivayam said in a release that as there was no respite from rains, holiday has been declared for educational institutions on Wednesday.
Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan told media on the sidelines of a function today that all precautionary steps have been taken in the context of the current inclement weather, as per the PTI.
She appealed to the people not to venture out unnecessarily and said the government machinery is ready to rise to any exigency.
Chief Minister N Rangasamy visited some of the water-logged housing colonies here and directed the officials to pump out the water without delay.
District Collector E Vallavan said in a release that Puducherry registered 16 cm rainfall during the last twenty-four hours ending 8.30 a.m.
Control rooms were in place and relief camps were also opened to accommodate people in the affected areas in and around Puducherry.
