A 45-year-old construction worker was killed and a 50-year-old was injured after a wall of a dilapidated cluster structure (wada) collapsed at Kasaba Peth yesterday. The deceased has been identified as Dilip Tulsidas Uddan, a resident of Tadiwala road and the wounded person was identified as Bharat Nagnath Bhalerao, who is undergoing treatment at Surya Hospital in Shaniwar Peth. Police said Subhash Dere owned the wada, however four years ago he sold it to Gavade Builders, who were to redevelop the site after demolishing the cluster structure. &ldquo;Gavade had given contract to Firoz Khan to demolish the wada. Khan had employed Uddan and Bhalerao to demolish the structure and in the afternoon while bothu00a0were engrossed in their work, an old peepal tree situated behind the wada suddenly uprooted and fell on the two workers and subsequently the wall too collapsed on them and they got trapped under the debris,&rdquo; said police inspector Anant Rajeshirke of Faraskhana police station. The fire brigade personnel managed to rescue the victims and rushed them to the hospital. Doctors said Uddan had died due to lung and chest complications.u00a0Kasba Fire Station in-charge Prakash Gore said that the control room received a call at 11.30 am and within eight minutes, the fire personnel reached the site and started rescue operations. The wada was in the list of 23 wadas, which the civic body deemed as in a dangerous condition. In 2011, the PMC had conducted the survey of 186 old wadas. Out of that PMC officials listed 108 wadas in dilapidated condition and should be razed. In 2012 PMC demolished 70 wadas. This year a total 38 wadas are planned for demolition of which 15 have been razed while 23 are remaining. &ldquo;We have served a notice to Dere wada. A developer has taken permission for re-development of that wada two months ago,&rdquo; said Vivek Kharwadkar, additional city engineer, PMC. He also said that a special team of 20 labourers has been formed to raze these wadas.
