With the second round of 25% admissions in private schools for students belonging to the economically weaker section of society under the Right To Education Act (RTE) ending yesterday, over 3000 admissions have been completed. Many parents are, however, complaining that their kids have got admissions to schools that are 13-15 km away from their houses.

Sonali Kunjir, an RTE activist in Pimpri Chinchwad area, said, “I know of at least 11 students who have received admissions either to far-off schools or to schools that they never opted for in the application forms. I made their parents apply in the second round but the situation did not change and students still received admission to schools far from their homes.”

The education directorate has said that a separate round will be conducted in the next few days to address the complaints of applicants.

Asha Ubale, education officer, primary education department, PCMC, said, “We have sent letters to every school about each complaint received against them along with the action that they have to take on it. We will be discussing the problems in admissions for RTE seats with the deputy director of education in Pune on Wednesday and try to solve the problems.”
