The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day little after 2 pm on Monday as Opposition MPs continued to protest over the issue of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, reported news agency PTI.
The Upper House saw two adjournments in the pre-lunch sitting, the first coming within minutes of meeting at 11 am when it was adjourned till 12 noon.
When the House met at 12 noon, Opposition MPs against urged the Chair to allow them to speak over the SIR issue, and also raised slogans leading to the House being adjourned till 2 pm, reported PTI.
As the Upper House met at 2 pm, the Chair tried to continue the debate on The Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill 2025. However, Opposition MPs continued to raise slogans demanding a debate on the SIR issue, and that the exercise be stopped.
Some MPs also trooped into the Well of the House.
Amid the din, the Chair adjourned the House for the day.
The first week of disruption in Parliament's Monsoon session is set to give way to a fiery debate on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor from Monday as the ruling alliance and the Opposition prepare to lock horns over the two issues steeped in national security and foreign policy imperatives.
The BJP-led ruling National Democratic Alliance and opposition parties are expected to field their top guns during the discussion in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Opposition parties have framed their public criticism of the government around alleged intelligence lapses behind the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians killed, and US President Donald Trump's claims of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly attacked the government's foreign policy, claiming that India did not receive international support on Operation Sindoor and has cited Trump's frequent mediation claims to target the ruling alliance. The government has rejected Trump's claims.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday asserted that the armed force are ever vigilant to defend India's borders and Operation Sindoor was an effective and well-coordinated strike against nine terror sites, reported PTI.
Opening the debate in the Lok Sabha on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, he said seven terror camps were fully destroyed. He said India has proof of the damage incurred inside PoK and Pakistan, reported PTI.
The entire operation was over in 22 minutes and the Pahalgam killings were avenged.
