Private agency develops prototype of app that will show location and exact time of arrival of buses

A new app is expected to put an end to city commuters’ endless wait at bus stops. The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) has developed the prototype of the app, which will show the location of buses and the exact time of arrival with the help of a GPS system. Currently, the M-Indicator app that is used by bus commuters, only lists the schedule and routes of BEST buses across the city. A private agency that is developing the app, on behalf of the BEST administration, made a presentation on its workability yesterday. For the trial, 50 buses were fitted with a GPS system. "This app has been made compatible so that it can trace the location of the bus. We will have two different apps — one for the pasenger and the other for the depot managers to trace the bus route numbers," said a BEST official.
